Communion Practice
We rejoice in the celebration of the LORD’S SUPPER on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of each month. Nowhere else in all creation does the Lord of the Church come so close to us as to give us His body and blood for the remission of sins. (Matt. 26:26-28; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:14-20; I Cor. 11:17-34)
We rejoice also in the Christian Church's historic practice of Closed Communion. The historic Christian Church and the LC-MS have always believed, taught and confessed the Scriptural practice of Closed Communion. From the Bible, we believe that communing together is a testimony of the oneness in doctrine that we confess together publicly at the altar rail as the body of Christ. (Eph. 4:5; Acts 2:42)
Our practice is not because we claim that we are better than others but because communion together is a public testimony of our agreement in all articles of doctrine. (Formula of Concord, Solid Declaration, Article X, line 31). Holy Scripture teaches that it is important to hold membership in a Church body that publicly confesses that which you believe in your heart and confess with your lips. (Romans 10:9, 16:17)
For those whose confession of the Christian faith is in agreement with ours and express a desire to commune with us we ask that they be active members (that is, communing regularly in their home church) of a sister LC-MS congregation or a foreign partner church that is in altar and pulpit fellowship with the LC-MS.
If your confession is in agreement with the LC-MS, and you are not currently a member of a church in altar and pulpit fellowship with the LC-MS, our Pastor is available to teach concerning the differences between the different denominations of Christianity. He does so with the sole purpose of your joining that Church body that agrees with the faith that you confess.
Thank you for respecting our position of love in this matter of pastoral care.
Finally, if you have any questions at all about the practice of Closed Communion, we at Our Saviour's welcome and encourage you to discuss this with our pastor. Please feel free to email us or call the office at (507) 215-1887 to leave a message.
